"Mi siglo XIX": L'obra historiogràfica del canonge Gaietà Barraquer i Roviralta (1880-1918)

Abstract

Les obres del canonge Gaietà Barraquer i Roviralta són, avui dia, una referència bibliogràfica de gran significat i valor en el camp de la història, història eclesiàstica i de l’art. Destaca el contingut informatiu i documental en el corpus dels seus treballs, fruit de la seva tasca investigadora i a través d’una tipologia de fonts molt diversa: arxivístiques, bibliogràfiques, premsa, gràfiques i orals. A la vegada, ressalta la presència d’una metodologia positivista historiogràfica que caracteritza l’elaboració dels seus treballs, com l’ús del mètode social Le Play en la construcció del format de les seves obres i les eines usades per a la recopilació de dades, o inclús de la presència de la seva ideologia. Un altre aspecte és la dimensió patrimonial, on preval la valoració de la destrucció de les cases religioses, el destí que tingueren els seus béns patrimonials, i el vocabulari emprat en la descripció dels elements artístics i arquitectònics. La present tesi doctoral té per objectiu realitzar una anàlisi historiogràfica dels seus treballs, amb la finalitat d’aprofundir en la vida i la trajectòria vital del seu autor, els motius que comportaren l’execució de les seves obres i les característiques del seu format. També s’incideix en l’estudi del context històric que narra, les característiques del seu pensament, i la metodologia amb la qual treballà. A més, s’analitzen la tipologia de fonts documentals que va fer servir i les seves característiques, com la perspectiva patrimonial que s’extreu arran de la descripció dels vestigis dels cenobis i les seves particularitats estilístiques.

The works of canon Gaietà Barraquer and Roviralta are today a bibliographical reference of great significance and value in history, ecclesiastical history and art. One of the main characteristics is the information and documentation they use to create their work, resulting from their research as a historian through a diverse typology of sources: archival, bibliographical, press, graphic and oral sources. He also highlights the presence of a positivist historiographical methodology that characterises the production of his works, such as the use of the Le Play social method in his construction, and the tools used for data collection, or even the presence of his ideology. Another aspect is the patrimonial dimension, where the assessment of the destruction of the religious houses, the fate of their patrimonial assets, and the vocabulary used in describing the artistic and architectural elements prevails. This doctoral thesis aims to carry out a historiographical analysis of his works to delve into the life and life trajectory of the author. Also, the motives that led to the execution of his works and the characteristics of their format. It also focuses on studying the historical context in which he narrates, the characteristics of his thought and the methodology with which he worked. In addition, the typology of the documentary sources he used and their characteristics contribute to understanding his methodology and framework. Besides that, analyse the patrimonial perspective of his works from the description of the vestiges of the monasteries and their stylistic particularities.
