Autorretrato: la mirada interior

Abstract

Estudio de la capacidad del autorretrato para manifestar la genuina personalidad de su autor a los que lo contemplan, dando a conocer a los demás su manera de ser íntima y —referido a los alumnos de Bellas Artes— de la posibilidad de ser utilizado para alcanzar un mayor conocimiento propio mediante su realización. Para fundamentar esta tesis se recurre al análisis del proceso seguido por artistas de distintas épocas que, aún sin proponerse tal objetivo, con sus autorretratos establecen un precedente en el tema. En el autorretrato el artista trata de representarse no sólo tal como se ve, sino también como sabe que es por dentro. La experiencia de la propia personalidad se manifiesta al representarse, de ahí que al observar un autorretrato afloren aspectos de la manera de ser del autor que serían menos evidentes contemplando la realidad. Resultan de especial interés las variaciones que se aprecian con el transcurrir del tiempo en la forma de verse, de describirse y de comunicarse a través del autorretrato, tanto respecto a los artistas analizados como respecto a la experiencia personal del autor. Para que la observación del autorretrato permita un juicio propio lo más imparcial posible, se propone un método destinado a facilitar la acción de juzgar sobre sí mismo con la ecuanimidad de quien no es parte interesada.

Study of the capacity of the self-portrait to show the genuine personality of its author to those who contemplate, revealing to others their way of being intimate and —regarding students of Arts— from the possibility of being used to achieve greater self-knowledge through its realization. In support of this thesis it is used to analyse the process followed by artists from different periods, even without having that goal, with his self-portraits set a precedent on the subject. In the self-portrait the artist is represented not only as seen, but also as he knows it is inside. The experience of one's personality appears to represent the manifest, hence observing a self-portrait to surface aspects of the author's personality contemplating a less obvious reality. Of particular interest are the variations that can be seen with the passage of time in the way you look, been described and communicating through self-portrait, both as artists analysed as regard to the author's personal experience. To allow the observation of a possible self-portrait as impartial judgment, a method to facilitate the action of judging on himself with the equanimity of one who is not a party proposes.
