Arte y Acción Política. Auge y decadencia en Barcelona (1992 - 2010)

Abstract

Este estudio presenta el potencial y la trascendencia artístico-social de las acciones reivindicativas, poéticas y políticas agrupadas bajo el epígrafe de arte activista o artivismo. Se buscó entender cómo diversos movimientos sociales hicieron uso del arte de acción política, y cómo relacionaban arte y activismo. Una pequeña parte del estudio ha sido dedicada a una revisión de las bases teóricas del arte activista. La mayor parte, a escribir la historia del arte activista en Barcelona en el marco temporal que se ubica entre 1992 y 2015, con un enfoque en la relación entre estas prácticas y los espacios públicos como sus escenarios naturales, un énfasis que advierte de la importancia de la participación de la comunidad como contrapunto a la dimensión opaca de la sociedad: el miedo al resto o partes de la comunidad, las dinámicas de exclusión, la pasividad, la negación del conflicto social, entre otros aspectos. Además, se hizo una etnografía de dos colectivos que han sido elegidos en el transcurso de la investigación, en relación a su relevancia en el contexto del arte activista en Barcelona. Todo ello con el fin de establecer una reflexión acerca del arte de acción política en Barcelona, su auge y su decadencia, basado en un análisis sobre la relación entre las prácticas artísticas, el activismo y las instituciones del Arte. Así mismo, se han analizado las nuevas formas de actuar desde estas prácticas, las nuevas gramáticas políticas derivadas de ellas, así como posibles nuevos actores sociales. Se trata de objetivar cómo se desdoblan estás prácticas entre la política y el arte, el potencial de los procesos creativos como herramienta política pacífica, estableciendo hasta qué punto los límites, las insuficiencias y los fracasos que han venido experimentado este tipo de corrientes de acción artístico-social, pudieron estar dando cuerpo a su propia decadencia al convertir lo que en un primer momento se proyectó como herramienta de difusión política, en pura espectacularización. Por otra parte, también se han abordado los límites de estas acciones frente a la institucionalización.

This study presents the potential and artistic-social significance of the vindictive, poetic and political actions grouped under the heading of activist art or artivism. We sought to understand how various social movements made use of the art of political action, and how they related art and activism. A small part of the study has been dedicated to a review of the theoretical basis of activist art. For the most part, to write the history of activist art in Barcelona in the time frame that is located between 1992 and 2015, with a focus on the relationship between these practices and public spaces as their natural settings, an emphasis that warns of the importance of community participation as a counterpoint to the opaque dimension of society: fear of the rest or parts of the community, the dynamics of exclusion, passivity, denial of social conflict, among other aspects. In addition, an ethnography was made of two groups that have been chosen in the course of the investigation, in relation to their relevance in the context of activist art in Barcelona. All this in order to establish a reflection on the art of political action in Barcelona, its rise and decline, based on an analysis of the relationship between artistic practices, activism and art institutions. Likewise, we have analyzed the new ways of acting from these practices, the new political grammars derived from them, as well as possible new social actors. It is about objectifying how these practices unfold between politics and art, the potential of creative processes as a peaceful political tool, establishing the extent to which the limits, insufficiencies and failures that have been experienced by this type of artistic action -social, they could be giving rise to their own decline by converting what was initially projected as a tool for political dissemination, in pure spectacularization. On the other hand, the limits of these actions against institutionalization have also been addressed.
