El mercado de Querétaro : una visión alternativa cronotópica desde el hoy y desde el lugar

Abstract

In Mexico, in the city of Santiago de Querétaro, inside the so-called Barrios de la Otra Banda, El Tepetate market is located, which background dates since pre-Hispanic times. The environment of the area denotes a low urban and architectural quality, a deficiency in its accessibility and social problems; besides being neglected for decades. The market is the engine of the boroughs and, despite being known across the city, its geographical location manifests territorial segregation from the UNESCO heritage area by a river and a railway track. In hybrid cultures such as latin american, the anthropological, social, political, urban and architectonic aspects are hardly reconcilable when it comes to common good. The social reality concurs with the history of the place, it has and makes memory. It is necessary to safeguard the cultural continuity to guarantee past experiences: knowing where one comes from so one knows where to go. Studying how the entities relate with one another through space and time, acknowledging an entity cannot be understood without the other, leads to understanding that the diverse results are not an ending or a beginning, but an inclusion. With historical, urban and ethnographic studies it is proposed to approach in present day to the culture of the place and it is reflected upon the links between the results. A configuration which associates historical changes in the urban layout that have contributed to the relocation of the market, which memory is almost forgotten is presented; as well as an exercise of micro-urban enhancement that would intend to promote physical and social inclusion. Endowing the architecture with instruments that make its temporal and spatial adequation to the urban process possible, will contribute to a system which conducts towards the improvement of the livability conditions for the users of such architecture. An alternate vision which links time with space and times between themselves, will guide towards the proposal of a new market or its rehabilitation along with its urban environment. It is about recognizing that building does not mean occupying space annihilating the alterity, that is to say the condition of being other or others, but about heading to a change in a careful and proportionate manner. Although this being a hard labor, it is not to be thought as an impossible one, and even if it limits in utopia, “the worst utopia there exist is that of thinking everything will go well if continued as until now”. The distinct spatial, temporal, physic and social characteristics of the place should conduct to architectonic and urban projects or interventions of recognized quality reflecting its specific modernity.

En México, en la ciudad de Santiago de Querétaro, en los llamados Barrios de la Otra Banda, se ubica el mercado "El Tepetate" cuyos antecedentes emanan desde la época prehispánica. El entorno de la zona denota escasa calidad urbano-arquitectónica, deficiencia en su accesibilidad y problemas de orden social; amén de haber permanecido desatendido durante décadas. El mercado es el motor de los barrios y, a pesar de ser conocido en toda la ciudad, su ubicación geográfica manifiesta segregación territorial de la zona patrimonial UNESCO por un río y una vía férrea. En culturas híbridas como las latinoamericanas los aspectos antropológico, social, político, urbano y arquitectónico son difícilmente conciliables cuando se trata del bien común. La realidad social va en concordia a la historia del lugar, tiene y hace memoria. Salvaguardar la continuidad cultural para garantir experiencias pasadas es algo necesario: saber de dónde se viene para, saber hacia dónde ir. Estudiar el cómo las entidades se relacionan unas con otras en el espacio tiempo, reconociendo que una entidad no puede entenderse sin la otra, conlleva comprender que la diversidad de resultados no son un principio ni un fin, sino una inclusiva. Con estudios históricos, etnográficos y urbanos se plantea acercarse en el hoy, a la cultura del lugar y, se reflexiona para enlazar los resultados. Se presenta la configuración que relaciona cambios históricos en la traza urbana que han contribuido a la re-ubicación del mercado, cuya memoria está casi olvidada y, un ejercicio de mejoramiento micro-urbano que pretendería promover la inclusión física y social. Dotar a la arquitectura de instrumental que, posibilite su adecuación temporal y espacial al proceso urbano, coadyuvará a un sistema que conduzca hacia la mejora de las condiciones de habitabilidad para los usuarios de esas arquitecturas. Una visión alternativa que ligue al tiempo con el espacio y a los tiempos entre sí, orientará hacia la propuesta de un nuevo mercado o, su rehabilitación y la de su entorno urbano. Se trata de reconocer que, construir no quiere decir ocupar el espacio aniquilando la alteridad, es decir la condición de ser otro u otros, por el contrario, se trata de ir hacia un cambio de manera cuidadosa y proporcionada. Si bien esto implica una ardua labor, no debería pensarse que es imposible, y aunque ello limite en la utopía, "la peor utopía que existe es aquella de pensar que todo irá bien si se continúa como hasta ahora". Las particulares características del lugar espacio-temporales, físicas y sociales deberían conducir a proyectos o intervenciones, arquitectónicas y urbanas de reconocida calidad reflejando su modernidad específica.
