Abstract

The guidelines of the institutions and international organizations in the field of education and childhood establish the need for transformation of education systems into school inclusion systems. In this school environment and inclusive classroom, all children, with and without disabilities, learn together in the same environment. This change process involves a process of transformation of education support professionals, among them the physiotherapist, with the aim of modifying their model of intervention towards a model of school inclusion, where their mission It is to enable the disabled child, the ability to overcome obstacles in their learning process. In this research, the process of validation and cross-cultural adaptation of the "Nationwide survey of school-based physical therapy practice" questionnaire is conducted by professors Susan K. Effgen and Marcia K. Kaminker from the USA, and a field study is carried out on Physiotherapists who work in school environments in Catalonia. The descriptive, non-experimental and quantitative study allows the establishment of a first analysis of physiotherapy practices in school environments in Catalonia, compare them with the practices that the professional would consider to be ideal and establish a first point of connection with physiotherapy practices in environments including inclusive schoolchildren. The real separation of our educational system into two clearly differentiated educational lines shows theoretically opposed intervention models as a model for more therapeutic intervention (that of special education schools) and another more educational or inclusive (the one of " ordinary schools). However, the existence of communicating vessels between the two systems, as well as the presence of physiotherapists in some ordinary centers, would seem to indicate the existence of a certain process of traffic or modification in the model of professional intervention. Likewise, the comparison between the current practice and the one that would be considered ideal, suggests the perception of the professional in the change of model, although it also indicates the aspect of professional competitions to improve and redefine by this professional. Even so, the physiotherapist, regardless of the school system that carries out his intervention, expresses a concern about his participation in aspects of the educational process of the student with disabilities, and for the knowledge and recognition of his work and his mission as a support for students with disabilities to overcome the barriers to the educational and learning process, which the authority and the educational administration should carry out. The little and confusing current regulations regarding the figure of the physiotherapist in inclusive school environments, and especially their implication and participation in the education process of children with disabilities, is manifested as one of the main aspects to be corrected and to work to be able to compare the physiotherapy practices to inclusive school systems.
