Abstract

The topic of the thesis, Architecture of the reality, appears with a double objective: 1. A chronicle of the activities by the group of architects Pilar Prim, between 1997 and 2004, a period that belongs to the change of century, so among two celebrations that took place in Barcelona: the congress of the UIA and the Forum of the cultures. This group was integrated by a group of architects of the same generation of author thesis autor¿s , who liked to think about architecture, and especially on the city of Barcelona. This was the cultural space that all the members¿s group were sharing . 2. To go into some reflections of architecture, from both the ideas of the proper group, and also from the practical experience of the author. Both items complement each other: The history of the group helps to illustrate a certain way of understanding the architecture, and in turn, the critical writings can help to complement the point of view of the group. The landscape of the thesis is, so, that of the current architecture and that of the city of Barcelona. The volume 1 , " Pilar Prim's complete Work " is a commented history of the group. But also it¿s a critique of some of the principal episodes that led the daily life of Barcelona during that period. The critical texts that accompany the central story of the thesis, come, first, from the internal discussions of the group. The majority of them were turning about today's news, especially from the section of La Vanguardia newspaper " To live in Barcelona " , and had a leif motiv generically: it was necessary to contaminate with life the present architecture to escape of the formalist blind alley in which this one had placed. Some of these discussions still remain gathered in " Numbers of the Pilar Prim complete work ", a set of sheets that were published in an irregular and dispersed way. Also there are compiled other debates that though they did not make concrete in the shape of publication were present in many of the internal discussions of the group. They are written mixing some and others in order to respect the chronology in which they were appearing, and to reproduce the particular incident of the group. The volume 2 " Numbers of Pilar Prim's Complete Work " is a collection facsimile of 18 published numbers, arranged chronologically and preserving the original format. The volume 3 "Photorama" continues the critical look of the Volume 1 but using images instead of words. It is a meaningful and numerous selection of photography¿s arranged thematically, accompanied of short writings that show a tendentious vision of the reality, that of the present thesis.This volume is ordained from seven recommendations or paragraphs that, therefore, might be considered to be the conclusions of the thesis: To question the new; to neglect the form; to care the function; to meet again with the genuineness; to allow the mystery; to contaminate with life; to respect the reality The volume 4 " Barcelonian newspaper library " is a documentary annex that gathers cuts of press and documentation by the group that complements the information of the thesis.

El tema central de la tesis, Arquitectura de la realidad, se plantea un doble objetivo: 1. Elaborar una crónica de las actividades el colectivo de arquitectos Pilar Prim, entre 1997 y 2004, un período que coincide con el cambio de siglo , y concretamente entre dos celebraciones que tuvieron lugar en Barcelona: el congreso de la UIA y el Forum de las culturas.Este colectivo lo integraban un grupo de arquitectos de la misma generación del autor de la tesis, que querían opinar sobre arquitectura, y en especial sobre la ciudad de Barcelona. Esta era el espacio cultural que compartían todos los miembros de aquel colectivo. 2. Profundizar sobre algunas reflexiones de arquitectura, a partir de las ideas del propio colectivo, como también de la propia experiencia profesional del autor. Ambos apartados se complementan: La historia del grupo ayuda a ilustrar una determinada manera de entender la arquitectura, i a su vez, los escritos críticos pueden ayudar a complementar el punto de vista del colectivo.El paisaje de la tesis es , pues , el de la arquitectura actual y el de la ciudad de Barcelona.

El volumen 1 que lleva por título “ Obra completa de Pilar Prim” es una historia comentada del colectivo. Pero también hace una crítica de algunos de los principales episodios que protagonizaron la vida cotidiana de Barcelona durante aquel periodo. Los textos críticos que acompañan la narración central de la tesis, provienen, en primer lugar, de las discusiones internas del grupo. La mayoría de ellos giraban alrededor de temas de actualidad, provinentes en su mayoría de la sección “ Vivir en Barcelona” de La Vanguardia, y tenían un leif motiv genérico: era necesario contaminar de vida a la arquitectura para salir del callejón sin salida formalista en el que esta se había situado. Algunas de estas discusiones quedarían recogidas en los “ Números de la Obra Completa de Pilar Prim”, un conjunto de cuartillas que fueron publicadas de manera irregular y dispersa. También se recopilan otros debates que aunque no se concretaron en forma de publicación estuvieron presentes en muchas de las discusiones internas del colectivo. El redactado mezcla unos y otros con el fin de respetar la cronología en la que fueron apareciendo, y reproducir así la particular peripecia del grupo

El volumen 2 “ Números de la Obra Completa de Pilar Prim” es una colección facsímil de los 18 números publicados, ordenados cronológicamente y conservando el formato original.

El volumen 3 “ Fotorama” continua la mirada crítica del Volumen 1 pero utilizando imágenes en lugar de palabras. Es una selección intencionada y numerosa de fotografías ordenadas temáticamente, acompañadas de escritos cortos que muestran una visión tendenciosa de la realidad, la de la presente tesis.

Este volumen se ordena a partir de siete recomendaciones o apartados que, de alguna forma, podrían considerarse las conclusiones de la tesis: Cuestionar la novedad. Descuidar la forma. Atender la función. Reencontrarse con la autenticidad. Permitir el misterio. Contaminarse de vida. Respetar la realidad

El volumen 4 “Hemeroteca barcelonesa” es un anejo documental que recoge recortes de prensa y documentación interna del grupo que complementa la información de la tesis
