La literatura basca traduïda al català (1982-2020)

Abstract

La qüestió que aquesta tesi investiga està lligada a la literatura basca traduïda al català: la finalitat ha estat analitzar a fons l’estat de les traduccions que del basc s’han fet al català. I, a més, analitzant la literatura basca traduïda al català, s’ha volgut posar el focus sobre les relacions entre les cultures basca i catalana en època contemporània, i fer una diagnosi actualitzada d’aquests fluxos relacionals. Dins el marc de relacions entre les cultures basca i catalana, poques vegades examinades en profunditat, hem cregut que la literatura traduïda és una de les àrees més adients per estudiar aquests lligams. Per assolir aquest coneixement, doncs, hem presentat el corpus d’obres basques per a adults traduïdes a la llengua catalana, i hem plantejat de manera acurada els funcionaments dels sistemes literaris basc i català, sobretot en el camp de les traduccions. També hem analitzat quines són les raons històriques (tant literàries i culturals, com d’altres de tipus més social, polític o ideològic) que ens poden ajudar a entendre millor els aspectes relacionals entre ambdues literatures. De la mateixa manera, hem tingut en compte la percepció, les connotacions socials i la projecció mediàtica de la literatura basca en l’àmbit de la llengua catalana. No podem obviar que s’han de considerar no només les modificacions de la realitat, sinó també els canvis del punt de referència de qui les observa. En aquest sentit, hem analitzat si les transformacions més determinants relacionades amb la percepció externa de la literatura basca s’han produït per la manca de la quantitat i la qualitat de la producció literària, que, sens dubte, haurien hagut d’afavorir aquella percepció; o pels components sociopolítics, que han pogut anar en contra i deixar la literatura basca en una situació gairebé d’invisibilitat. Hem tractat, bàsicament, de procedir a una anàlisi minuciosa i sistemàtica del corpus d’obres basques traduïdes al català des de diferents aproximacions sistèmiques i sociològiques a l’estudi de les traduccions, com poden ser la Teoria dels Polisistemes, plantejada per Itamar Even-Zohar, i la noció de Camp literari, proposada per Pierre Bourdieu. Hem analitzat la manera com aquest corpus ha estat integrat en el sistema literari català per veure també quina és la imatge que transmet la literatura basca traduïda al català, tot plegat amb la finalitat d’observar si aquesta imatge respon a una sèrie d’estereotips, de clixés nacionals que operen en relació amb els bascos, o si la imatge que sorgeix a partir del corpus és més fidel a la realitat original de la literatura basca contemporània.

The question that this thesis investigates deals with Basque literature translated into Catalan: the aim has been to thoroughly analyse the standard of the translations that have been carried out from Basque into Catalan. While analysing Basque literature translated into Catalan we wanted to examine relations between Basque and Catalan culture in the contemporary period, and make an updated diagnosis of the relational flows involved. Within the framework of relations between Basque and Catalan culture – which have seldom been examined in depth – we believe that translated literature is one of the most appropriate areas for the study of these connections. So to achieve this knowledge we studied the corpus of Basque works for adults translated into Catalan, and carefully examined the workings of the Basque and Catalan literary systems, especially in the area of translations. We have also analysed the historical reasons – both literary and cultural, as well as others of a more social, political or ideological type – that may help us to better understand the relational aspects between these two literatures. In the same way, we have taken into account the perception, social connotations and media projection of Basque literature in the Catalan language area. It should be underlined that we must take into account not only modifications of reality, but also changes in observers’ reference points. To this end, we analysed whether the most decisive transformations related to the external perception of Basque literature have taken place due to the lack of quantity and quality of literary production, which, without a doubt, would have contributed to that perception; or whether they have been caused by socio-political components, which may have worked against Basque literature and made it almost invisible. We have tried, in essence, to carry out a thorough and systematic analysis of the corpus of Basque works translated into Catalan, using various systemic and sociological approaches in our study of these translations; for instance, the Theory of Polysystems, put forward by Itamar Even-Zohar, and the Literary Camp notion, as proposed by Pierre Bourdieu. We have analysed the way in which this corpus has been integrated into the Catalan literary system in order to assess the image of Basque literature translated into Catalan, and whether this image responds to a series of stereotypes, of national clichés about the Basques, or if the image that emerges from the corpus is more faithful to the real situation of contemporary Basque literature.
