Lectures queer de l'amistat entre gamers: anàlisi dels discursos sobre amor, sexe i masculinitats en els real person slash de Rubelangel i Septiplier

Abstract

L’objectiu principal d’aquesta tesi és analitzar les narratives sobre l’amor romàntic, el sexe i la masculinitat presents en el real person slash (RPS) de Rubelangel i Septiplier. Els RPS son textos escrits pels fans sobre les relacions homosexuals imaginades entre dues celebritats heterosexuals, en aquest cas, sobre les parelles fictícies de YouTubers gamers El Rubius i Mangel (‘Rubelangel’) i Markiplier i Jacksepticeye (‘Septiplier’). Per tal d’assolir aquest objectiu, s’ha aplicat una anàlisi crítica del discurs a 22 RPS. Els resultats ens mostren que aquests textos es construeixen a partir de la intimitat entre els protagonistes i la situen al centre de totes les relacions. Tot i això, els mites de l’amor romàntic tenen una gran presència, i les relacions sexuals i de parella es representen mitjançant valors normatius. El consentiment sexual es basa en l’agència individual dels protagonistes i sovint es presenta com innecessari. No obstant, els RPS qüestionen els models de masculinitat dels protagonistes, i rellegeixen la seva amistat i masculinitat com una relació homoeròtica. En conjunt, aquesta investigació ens mostra que aquests RPS són un espai de tensió i negociació entre discursos normatius i transformadors, així com un espai de construcció de nous imaginaris sobre el desig i les relacions sexoafectives.

The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the narratives about romantic love, sex and masculinity present in the real person slash (RPS) of Rubelangel and Septiplier. RPS are texts written by fans about imagined homosexual relationships between two heterosexual celebrities, in this case, about the fictional couples of gaming YouTubers El Rubius and Mangel ('Rubelangel') and Markiplier and Jacksepticeye ('Septiplier'). Critical discourse analysis has been applied to 22 RPS to achieve this objective. The results show that these texts are built on the intimacy between the protagonists and place it at the centre of all relationships. Even so, the myths of romantic love have a strong presence and sexual and partner relationships are represented through normative values. Sexual consent is based on the individual agency of the protagonists and is often presented as unnecessary. However, these RPS question the models of masculinity of the protagonists and reads their friendship and masculinity as homoerotic relationships. This research shows us that these RPS are a space of tension and negotiation between normative and transformative discourses and a space for constructing new imaginaries about desire and sex-affective relationships.
