Innovación y co-creación como impulsores de la participación de los jóvenes en la gobernanza sostenible del turismo

Abstract

This research is an exciting immersion into the world of co-creation and its potential to drive innovation in sustainability within tourism and heritage education. Through the methodology of participant observation in the destinations of Foix (Occitania, France) and Sant Hilari Sacalm (Catalonia, Spain), the co-creation activities with young residents are explored in the school context as a tool for collaboration and engagement. It challenges the status quo by demonstrating that this activity can become a catalyst for local development if a culture of participation and inclusive governance is fostered. Traditional hierarchical structures are abandoned in favour of collaborative approaches with technical and political governance stakeholders, as well as other key actors in the field of tourism giving voice and empowering the young residents, generating innovative ideas and solutions for their own tourist destination tailored to what they consider best for their future. The core of this research focuses on implementing co-creation in heritage education within the learning environment presenting a true challenge: demonstrating that this methodology can be an effective tool for establishing policies of sustainable tourism development. It fosters civic culture through the involvement of young people in the management and conservation of their own cultural heritage, facilitating the integration of newcomers, nurturing a sense of belonging and cultural identity, and bringing meaningfulness to their education. The process concludes with a series of in-depth interviews with governance and education stakeholders with the purpose of validating the collected data. In summary, this thesis emerges as a source of hope in the face of the rapid, transformative and disruptive changes currently affecting the economy, education and immediate environment of young people. It also challenges established norms and conventions, redefining the landscape of the future of tourism and heritage education, with the aim of inspiring, questioning, and motivating action towards a more sustainable and collaborative world

Aquesta investigació és una immersió apassionant en el món de la co-creació i el seu potencial per impulsar la innovació en la sostenibilitat en el turisme i l'educació patrimonial. Mitjançant la metodologia de l'observació participant en els destinacions de Foix (Occitània, França) i Sant Hilari Sacalm (Catalunya, Espanya), s'explora les activitats de co-creació amb joves residents en el marc escolar com a eina de col·laboració i implicació, i desafia l'estatus quo en demostrar que aquesta activitat pot convertir-se en un catalitzador del desenvolupament local, sempre i quan es fomenti una cultura de participació i governança inclusiva. S'abandonen les estructures jeràrquiques tradicionals en favor d'enfocaments col·laboratius amb els responsables de la governança tècnics i polítics, així com amb la resta d'actors clau en l'àmbit del turisme, que atorguen veu i poder als joves residents, generant idees i solucions innovadores per a la seva pròpia destinació turística, adaptades al que consideren millor per al seu futur. El nucli d'aquesta investigació es centra en la implementació de la co-creació en l'educació patrimonial dins del context escolar i aquí rau el vertader desafiament: demostrar que aquesta metodologia pot ser una eina efectiva per establir polítiques de desenvolupament turístic sostenible, fomentant la cultura cívica, involucrant els joves en la gestió i conservació del seu propi llegat cultural, facilitant la participació i la integració dels nouvinguts, enriquint el sentiment de pertinença i identitat cultural i donant sentit a la seva formació. El procés conclou amb una sèrie d'entrevistes en profunditat amb els responsables de la governança i l'educació amb la finalitat de validar les dades obtingudes. En resum, aquesta tesi emergeix com una font d'esperança davant els vertiginosos, transformadors i disruptius canvis que actualment afecten l'economia, l'educació i l'entorn immediat dels joves, desafia les normes i convencions establertes i redefineix el panorama del futur del turisme i l'educació patrimonial, buscant inspirar, qüestionar i motivar a l'acció en favor d'un món més sostenible i col·laboratiu
