Abstract

Plants face extreme climatic conditions that threaten their survival and productivity. To address this issue, salicylic acid (SA) encapsulates have been developed as a palliative treatment against various abiotic stresses. This doctoral thesis focuses on the encapsulation of SA in two coating materials: silica (Si) and chitosan (Ch). The work is divided into four chapters that cover the formulation and characterization of encapsulated SA to the evaluation of its mechanism of action in plants treated under single and double stress conditions. This work provides a novel tool to enhance plant resistance to different abiotic stresses. The knowledge gained about the mechanism of action of encapsulated SA opens the door to the encapsulation of other phytocompounds with protective properties.
