Ópera y telenovela. La matriz mítica en el melodrama

[spa] Este documento explora la convergencia, aparentemente improbable, entre dos formas de representación: la ópera italiana, particularmente el movimiento verista, y la telenovela latinoamericana. A pesar de sus notables diferencias en términos de origen geográfico y contextos socio-culturales, es posible identificar un vínculo fundamental en ambas expresiones: el melodrama. Este concepto se erige como punto de partida para explorar las razones que explican la atractiva universalidad de estas narrativas, su inmensa aceptación en el público y su evolución progresiva hasta convertirse en fenómenos culturales y económicos de inmensa amplitud y relevancia. El texto resalta, además, el papel fundamental que estas manifestaciones han desempeñado en la construcción de identidad social en sus respectivas esferas, llegando incluso a convertirse en símbolos identitarios. Pero lo más importante, esta investigación profundiza en las razones subyacentes que explican la poderosa conexión entre estas narrativas y los individuos. Estas respuestas residen en las nociones de pensamiento mítico y matriz mítica que apuntalan las estructuras de sus tramas, conceptos que develan elementos esenciales vinculados a las funciones cognitivas fundamentales en la psicología humana. Se sostiene que lo que confiere a las narrativas melodramáticas su cautivador atractivo radica en su habilidad para manifestar aspectos centrales de la naturaleza humana, al abordar inquietudes y necesidades primordiales, y al reflejar cómo nos relacionamos con la realidad, la comprendemos y generamos conocimiento a partir de ella.

[eng] This paper explores the seemingly-improbable convergence of two forms of performance: the Italian opera, particularly the verist movement, and the Latin- American soap opera. Despite notable differences in terms of geographical origin and socio-cultural context, a fundamental link between both expressions can be identified: melodrama. This concept emerges as a starting point to explore the universality and attraction of these narratives, their massive reception by the public at large, and their progressive evolution that led them to become cultural and economic phenomena of immense breadth and relevance. Furthermore, this text underscores the fundamental role these artistic manifestations have had in the construction of social identity in their respective spheres, to the point of becoming symbols of identity. But most importantly, this research delves into the deeper reasons behind the powerful connection between these narratives and individuals. These answers reside in notions of mythical thought and the mythical matrix that lay at the base of their plot structures, concepts that reveal essential elements associated with fundamental cognitive functions within human psychology. It is stated here that what lends melodramatic narratives their captivating allure has to do with their ability to manifest central aspects of human nature by tapping into primordial needs and concerns, and by reflecting on how we engage with reality, how we understand it, and thus how we generate knowledge from it.
