La recepció del teatre britànic contemporani a l'Estat espanyol (1956-2004)

Abstract

Aquesta Tesi ofereix una visió panoràmica de la recepció del teatre britànic contemporani a l'Estat espanyol des de 1956 a 2004. En primer lloc, s'estableix el marc teòric, que parteix d'una revisió dels pressupòsits de l'Estètica de la Recepció, per a acabar contemplant les troballes de la Teoria de Polisistemes com a recursos teòrics més complets a l'hora d'abordar un objecte d'estudi tan complex com és un procés de recepció. Tot i això, també s'assenyalen les mancances d'aquest model teòric sobretot pel que fa a la seua falta d'aplicació al camp dels estudis teatrals.<br/>Per aquesta raó, en aquesta Tesi s'ha hagut de dissenyar un model metodològic propi que consta de diverses fases. Durant la fase de documentació, s'han recopilat les traduccions i produccions teatrals d'obres de dramaturgs britànics contemporanis a Madrid, Barcelona i València durant el període 1956-2004; a més, s'han recopilat també les dades de les produccions originals al Regne Unit. Tota aquesta informació s'ha abocat en una base de dades de fàcil consulta, adjunta a la Tesi en format CD-ROM.<br/>Durant la fase d'organització de les dades, s'han classificat en un primer moment totes les variables que afecten l'organització i sentit de les dades. Posteriorment, s'ha dut a terme una anàlisi quantitativa de les dades, els resultats de la qual es presenten a través d'anàlisis estadístiques de tendència central i de taules i gràfics de barres i de sector.<br/>Durant la fase d'anàlisi de les dades, s'han posat a col·lació les dades recollides i la totalitat de les variables identificades per a realitzar una anàlisi qualitativa. Durant aquesta anàlisi es tenen en compte les característiques dels sistemes polítics, socials, culturals i teatrals de cada subperíode històric i de cada territori sota estudi, així com informacions sobre permanència en cartell i reacció de la crítica, tot això en constant comparació amb la recepció original al Regne Unit.<br/>Finalment, a les conclusions s'exposen les tendències generals del procés de recepció sota estudi a partir de les informacions obtingudes en les fases anteriors. La Tesi es completa amb dos annexos documentals impresos.

This thesis provides a panoramic view of the reception of contemporary british drama in Spain from 1956 to 2004. Its theoretical framework reviews Reception Theory, as conceived by Hans Robert Jauss, and concludes that Polysystem Theory reworks the analysis of reception in a more complex and, therefore, complete way. However, the shortcomings of Polysystem Theory, specially regarding theatre studies, are also illustrated. <br/>For that reason, a specific method of approach has been devised by the author of this thesis in order to meet the requiriments of such a complex object of study as the reception of drama is. This method of approach is developed in several phases. During the documentation phase, detailed information about all the translations and productions of contemporary british plays in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia from 1956 to 2004 has been collected. That information has been stored in an accessible database, which is attached to this Thesis as a CD-ROM.<br/>During the data organization phase, all the variables affecting the data have been identified and classified. Next, a quantitative analysis of the interaction between the data and the quantitative variables has been carried out through measures of central tendency, tables and bar and circle graphs. <br/>During the data analysis phase, a qualitative analysis of the interaction of the data and all the variables affecting it is presented. Therefore, a complex panorama emerges as the characteristics of the political, social, cultural and theatrical systems of every city under study during every historical period are taken into account. Moreover, every remark about the reception of British drama in Spain during this period is always completed with information about the original reception of the plays under study in the United Kingdom. Detailed information regarding the number of performances and the reaction of the reviewers is also fully contemplated. <br/>Finally, this Thesis' concluding remarks describe the general tendencies of the process of reception under study, which emerge from the interaction of the information obtained during the previous phases. The study is completed with an extensive appendix, as well as a vast bibliography and hemerography.
