"Quando bene respicio": palabra, imagen y meditación en las obras de Marguerite d'Oingt

Abstract

En este trabajo reivindicamos la necesidad de contextualizar las obras de Marguerite d'Oingt en el entorno cultural en el que fueron realizadas. Esto significa tener en cuenta toda una serie de prácticas creativas, cognitivas y de recepción que estaban vigentes en el siglo XIII. Con ello perseguimos dos objetivos. El primero es proporcionar un estudio completo y con profundidad de todo el corpus de esta autora cartuja. El segundo, rescatar el aspecto visual de la lectura y la escritura de estas obras didácticas y místicas mediante un estudio comparativo, interdisciplinar e historicista de los textos. Este método se fundamenta en la reconstrucción de la red de imágenes que late detrás de los textos para una mejor comprensión de los mismos. Identificar el engranaje entre la palabra y la imagen mental significa acercarse a las prácticas que la obra pedía realizar a un lector coetáneo. A partir del estudio de las obras de Marguerite d'Oingt vamos a ver de qué manera estos usos del texto articulaban la lectura, la meditación, la mnemotecnia, la contemplación y la misma escritura.

In this thesis we claim to look at Marguerite d'Oingt's works in the cultural context in which they were born. This means to consider the thirteenth-century practices linked to creation, cognition and reception. By doing this, we aim two goals. The first is to provide a complete and in depth study of the author's whole corpus. The second is to recover, thanks to a comparative, multidisciplinary, and historical analysis, the visual aspect of reading and writing this genre of didactic and mystical texts. This method is based, firstly, on a reconstruction of the web of images that underlies the words. Secondly, this will allow us to get close to the practices that a historical reader was supposed to face. Therefore, by an attentive study of the whole author's works we will try to identify how these texts articulated reading, medidation, mnemoniscs, contemplations and writing.
