El exilio como inspiración creativa: cuatro escritores vietnamitas de la diáspora

Abstract

El nombre de Vietnam está estrechamente asociado a la guerra. La información sobre el país se limita básicamente a las crónicas sobre este conflicto bélico y su historia parece detenerse con la culminación del mismo en 1975. A través de las obra y la voz de cuatro exiliados vietnamitas: Kim Lefèvre, Andrew X. Pham, Kim Thúy y Andrew Lam, recreamos lo acontecido en Vietnam luego de culminada la guerra que condujo a más de un millón de personas al exilio. En este trabajo, hablamos sobre el exilio, sus orígenes y variantes. Echamos un vistazo a algunas olas de exilio y la manera en que diversos escritores reconocidos lo han vivido. Hacemos un recorrido por la historia de la literatura vietnamita desde sus inicios hasta llegar a la diáspora que escribe en francés e inglés y de la cual forman parte los escritores citados. Un apartado lo dedicamos a la literatura migrante de Quebec con el propósito de entender las características que distinguen esta literatura creada por refugiados e inmigrantes. A través de su voz conocemos las experiencias vividas antes, durante y después de la Guerra de Vietnam, el exilio y el proceso de adaptación al país de acogida. Estos escritores descubren en la escritura una excelente herramienta de ayuda en su proceso de definición de identidad que busca lograr un balance entre los dos hemisferios y los dos tiempos que les habitan. Como parte de este proceso, los escritores regresan a su tierra natal y analizamos los efectos que este evento les provoca. Exploramos las razones que los conducen a hacer su entrada al mundo de la literatura, los temas que comparten entre ellos y analizamos cómo la visión del exilio puede variar entre el escritor que se exilia y el refugiado convertido en escritor.

The name of Vietnam is closely associated with war. Information about the country is limited to the chronicles of this war and its history seems to stop with its culmination in 1975. Through the works and voices of four Vietnamese exiles: Kim Lefèvre, Andrew X. Pham, Kim Thúy and Andrew Lam, we recreate what happened in Vietnam after the end of the war that led more than a million people into exile. In this work, we talk about exile, its origins and variants. We take a look at some waves of exile and the way in which various renowned writers have lived it. We take a tour of the history of Vietnamese literature from its beginnings to reach the diaspora that writes in French and English and of which the writers mentioned are part. A section is dedicated to the migrant literature of Quebec with the purpose of understanding the characteristics that distinguish this literature created by refugees and immigrants. Through his voice we know the experiences lived before, during and after the Vietnam War, the exile and the process of adaptation to the host country. These writers discover in writing an excellent tool to help in the process of defining identity that seeks to achieve a balance between the two hemispheres and the two times that inhabit them. As part of this process, writers return to their homeland and analyze the effects that this event causes them. We explore the reasons that lead them to make their entry into the literary world, the issues they share with each other and analyze how the vision of exile can vary between the exiled writer and the refugee that has become a writer.
