El rei Pere el Cerimoniós i els seus llibres. Les cròniques i la biblioteca de Poblet.

Abstract

L’estudi analitza el discurs polític i la construcció de la imatge del rei Pere el Cerimoniós (1336 – 1387) a través de diverses empreses impulsades per ell, com ara la seva crònica personal o la biblioteca que fa construir al monestir de Poblet, entesa com a complement del panteó dinàstic allà erigit. El rei Pere, un monarca lector, utilitza com a models per al seu discurs algunes de les obres que llegeix com ara la Bíblia o la crònica de Jaume I. A través d’aquests discursos, construeix una imatge molt determinada de la seva figura que s’anirà enfosquint amb el pas dels segles fins arribar a la imatge esbiaixada de la contemporaneïtat. A través de l’estudi ens allunyem de la imatge tradicional del rei cerimoniós i del Punyalet i aproximar-nos a la figura del monarca com a eix del sistema polític català medieval.

El estudio analiza el discurso político y la construcción de la imagen del rey Pedro el Ceremonioso (1336 - 1387) a través de diversas obras impulsadas por él, como su crónica personal o la biblioteca que hace construir en el monasterio de Poblet, entendida como complemento de panteón dinástico allí erigido. El rey Pedro, un monarca lector, utiliza como modelos para su discurso algunas de las obras que lee, como la Biblia o la crónica de Jaime I. Mediante esos modelos, construye una imagen muy determinada de su figura que se irá oscureciendo con el paso de los siglos hasta llegar a la imagen sesgada de la contemporaneidad. A través de este estudio nos alejamos de la imagen tradicional del rey ceremonioso y del Punyalet para aproximarnos a la figura del monarca como eje del sistema político catalán medieval.

The study focusses on the construction of the political discourse and the image of King Peter the Ceremonious (1336 - 1387) prompted by himself. He promoted various initiatives to fix a memory about his kingship, such as his personal chronicle written by him or the library at the Cistercian monastery of Poblet, understood as a complement to the dynastic pantheon relaunched also by him. King Peter, a reading and cultivate monarch, uses as a model of his speeches some of the works he reads and admires, such as the Bible or the chronicle of James I. This research also traces all the sources of the chronical production of King Peter IV and the bibliographical interest of the monarch. Through his various speeches, oral and writing, he built a very clear image of his figure that over the centuries, it became darker until the distorted image of XIX and even XX and XXI centuries. Through the study we move away from the traditional image of the Ceremonious king and approach his figure to another in which the monarch was the axis of the medieval Catalan political system. Precisely, his chronicle far from being a classical historical book, it is a memory of his image, and among all a precious piece of expression of his political thought. Despite the biblical and dynastic ground, his description of what a king was it appears as a “modern” piece of mid-fourteenth century political thought. In this sense, he describes in this book, considered his political will, the bases of the power of a medieval king.
